I believe unionization will help level the playing field for non-unionized staff at Queen’s. Based on my experience, non-unionized staff do not have the resources required to support our needs as Queen’s employees. The odds are not in our favour. We are disadvantaged and, I believe, penalized by our lack of resources. As members of the USW, we will have access to training and to professionals who are economists, researchers, health and safety specialists, lawyers, human rights experts and job evaluation specialists. And, most importantly, we will have the right to negotiate a contract that is legal and binding.
